Michael Wardian knows his stuff. Part 3 of 4.

In today's lovely installment of Hey, Look What Michael Wardian Can Do! No really! Look!, I ask the ultramarathoner what one thing, other than his shoes, he could not do without during a run. I got to thinking about that question myself. What one thing... I feel like there are at least one hundred things I could have with me, to be honest. My watch, for one. Or Garmin. Heart rate monitor. All three. Sometimes -- OK, usually -- my iPod. RoadID. Apartment keys. Water. Are portable toilets possible? My phone. Food. How about a Coke? Basically I'm just going to carry a house on my back.

I don't know if there is just one thing. Really, I could run without any of those things and enjoy it. Some of the best runs are done without things. I suppose if we're talking about superstitions or luck, I have a couple things. I have two RoadIDs. One is purple and a gift from my parents, and the other is black and a promotional freebie. I ALWAYS wear the purple ID on race day, and save the black for training. Purple is special, duh. It was a gift. It says to me, "MOM SAID YOU CAN'T DIE. AND IF YOU DO, ALL OF THIS INFORMATION IS VERY, VERY IMPORTANT." Don't leave home without it.

The other is a necklace I got for my birthday from two of my best girls. It included two charms -- a running shoe and a wing. I LOVE IT SO MUCH. I contributed a third charm a few weeks back. It's a small disc that says BELIEVE. It's complete now, and when I wear it, I feel like I have my friends with me on race day. And every day. Seriously, it's my favorite necklace.

Let's check in and see what Michael has to say, shall we? And what, dear friends, say you? Also, check out Part 1 and Part 2 of Michael Wardian Tells Krittabug Everything He Knows.
